March 2015 produced a landmark moment for Irish artist, John Kearns and his Lateral Cut Groove soubriquet as his three-track Spring Tide EP for particles provided a sublime melodic sheen to the Particles catalogue and his own portfolio. The title track to that EP now makes a welcome return with a reminder of the original's pulsating bass line and immaculate melodic riff, with the welcome addition of remixes from Portugal and the UAE. A veteran of the underground music scene, Dubai resident, Subandrio, has revelled in roles as producer and DJ with awards to his name including Pioneer Middle East DJ of the Year in 2013. A relative newcomer to the production scene, a quarter-of-a-century of production credits for high-profile imprints including Lowbit, Perspectives Digital and Cid Inc.'s Replug have demonstrated an impressive talent. Furthermore, an appearance on the Sudbeats 3 compilation for Hernan Cattaneo's label has further cemented his reputation. Making his debut on Particles, the Subandrio remix takes Spring Tide on a rich percussive journey full of urgency and dynamism further emphasised by the use of a rolling 16th note bass line that delights with its sinister hypnotic edge. Soft pads and subtle melodic elements make reference to Lateral Cut Groove's work to create a remix of impressive proportions. Portuguese artist, Li-Polymer, from the sun-kissed island of Madeira, is no stranger to the underground progressive house scene. A regular on the Balkan Connection imprint, with further production credits for the likes of Mistique Music, System Recordings and Liquid Grooves, Li-Polymer has continued to flourish since 2014's debut on Future Lovers, part of the Plusquam label family. A remix of Matt Rowan's Cantstandya in 2014 and the delightful Silence Between Us, part of the Summer Particles 2015 compilation, marks Li-Polymer's contribution to the label thus far and it is a joy to see him make a welcome return with a lively interpretation of Spring Tide. Taking the original, low-slung rhythms are locked to a similarly groove-oriented bass line to form the basis of the Li-Polymer remix. Rich textured pads swim enticingly and melodic themes inherent in the original make their presence felt in haunting fashion. A pair of new remixes illustrate that the Spring Tide is still rising high for Lateral Cut Groove.
