RELEASE NOTES ..:: ] ............................ The latest release from Ziger's Eat My Hat imprint welcomes Nomas to the label for his debut EP. Niccol Nicoli aka Nomas was born in Italy but now calls Germany home where he has been crafting his own unique brand of progressive techno. With a lean towards the astral spectrum of the genre, Niccolo cites Tale Of Us as one of the influences for his hypnotic and well textured sound. A short but tidy discography is highlighted by releases on Minar Records and SLC-6 Music, where he has earned the support of Adana Twins, Adriatique, Fideles, Guy J, John Digweed, Mind Against and Sasha. Now adding another important release to his resume, Nomas debuts on Eat My Hat with 'Awakenings'. Beginning with the title selection Nomas continues to explore the darker narratives for which he has become known for. A warm rolling groove sits at the foundation while electric rhythms and meditative arps fill in the framework. Both foreboding and mysterious, it's flair for the dramatic grows as astral tones and frayed percussion lead to an expansive break. The storyboard then shifts with emotive chord changes and glowing atmospheres providing a sense of calm, before getting washed away into a sea of dark beats and rippling grooves. The companion piece '1986' follows a similar sonic ethos and sits as a perfect complement to its predecessor. Its pulsating groove is perfectly contoured, adorned with quirky electronics and esoteric designs. Astral arps drift across the framework, while waves of percussion and haunting overlays continue to build tension into the break. Dramatic yet emotive, the centerpiece slowly builds to a sonic sizzle, as a rush of percussion and white noise sparks an arp driven finale.
