Following in a long line of celebrated and successful artists featuring on the quarterly Particles compilation series, Nick Hogendoorn's The Lurker provided a brooding, percussive pearl on the Winter 2013 edition that shone brightly in the sea of quality music that surrounded it. From initial dabbles in the world of DJ'ing, the Dutchman's talent for music production soon blossomed with early work signed to Toes In The Sand in 2004. Since then, collaborative work with fellow Dutchman Eelke Kleijn has led to tracks featuring on Global Underground, Baroque and Kleijn's own Outside The Box, as well as solo work featuring on the likes of Jetlag Digital and Mango Alley. Now, after two remixes of Abdomen Burst's Ex Machina and Sed Project's seminal, Some Will Figure, Particles is now delighted to reprise Hogendoorn's menacing original with two brand new remixes of The Lurker from the Balkans. Working out of the Turkish capital, Erdi Irmak has developed an intriguing blend of deep and progressive styles over the course of a production career that has seen him sign works to Mistique, Lowbit and Movement. Indeed it is with the latter that Irmak has recently released the biographically titled, All My Life to critical acclaim. Furthermore, July 2013 saw the release of Erdi's debut solo release for Particles in the shape of the Start Believing EP which followed on the back of a triumphant remix of Kobana and Mario Hatchet's Reload earlier in the year. Turning his significant skills towards remix duties on The Lurker, Erdi Irmak has provided a clever interpretation of Nick Hogendoorn's original. A strong, pounding kick drum provides the backdrop for metallic percussive elements to sit playfully atop proceedings as the reminiscent melodic riffs from the original mix mark a welcome return. The instantly recognisable refrains weave their way in and out of the driving rhythmic section with consummate easy to provide a strong offering of undoubted quality. Second contributor, Tassos Papagiannoulis has been successfully producing from the coastal Greek city of Thessalonoki under his increasingly successful Tash production moniker for a number of years. An early career in DJ'ing and promotions has seen Tash perform at countless venues including London's Ministry of Sound and Amsterdam Dance Event and a subsequent production career has seen no let up in the Tash success story. His own Movement Recordings imprint has accounted for almost 50 Beatport production credits alongside other high-calibre artists such as Luis Junior, Dousk and Ben Coda while further work on Balkan Connection, Fatali and Indigo have cemented a growing reputation. Making his debut for Particles, the Tash remix of The Lurker intriguingly, Cannot Avoid The Past. A nostalgic opening break-beat rhythm section immediately provides a wonderful groove-laden texture that is enhanced by rapid-fire percussive hi-hats. A sumptuous bass groove then evolves gradually in the second movement in all its analogue glory to provide a sublime emotive counterpoint to the original melodic motifs from Hogendoorn's original. These combined with Tash's impressive additional production material provides a debut to remember. With Erdi Irmak and Tash shining bright lights on Nick Hogendoorn's work, The Lurker has no cause to hide in the shadows.
