▒ release notes ▒
░ ░
░ ░
Formed in Anaheim, CA in 1986 and bred in the Southern California
Mod/Ska scene, No Doubt expanded their sound and earned
international acclaim with their 1995 album Tragic Kingdom,
including the now classic single "Don't Speak" among many others.
Their follow-up, Return of Saturn, was nominated for Best Rock
Album at the 2001 Grammy Awards. The following year, the band won
two Grammy Awards for the multi-platinum Rock Steady and
performed with U2, Sting and The Rolling Stones. After the double-
platinum retrospective The Singles 1992-2003, featuring the hit
"It's My Life," lead singer Gwen Stefani released two successful
solo albums in 2004 and 2006, respectively. In 2009, after a
nearly five-year hiatus, No Doubt completed a 50-plus-city North
American tour performing for more than 750,000 fans that summer.
The following year they were invited to perform for President
Barack Obama and the first lady Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey,
Sir Paul McCartney and others as part of the annual Kennedy
Center Honors. No Doubt's natural camaraderie, not to mention the
musical alchemy that occurs when these four friends reunite, is
palpable throughout the band's new album Push And Shove -- a
supercharged blend of ska-rock, dancehall, and electronic pop
that will remind people why No Doubt has maintained its position
as one of the most beloved and commercially successful acts of
the past 20 years. Push and Shove, featuring the lead single
"Settle Down," will be released on September 25, 2012.
No Doubt is the eponymous debut studio album by American rock
band No Doubt, released on March 17, 1992 by Interscope Records.
It was originally recorded as an independent release, but was re-
recorded after the band signed with Interscope. It was produced
by Dito Godwin and recorded in Los Angeles. The album was released
during a period in which the United States was mainly focused on
grunge music, an angst-ridden genre that was almost the complete
opposite of No Doubt's upbeat, commercial sound. Despite strong
tours, the album failed to perform as well as the record company
expected it to, selling only 30,000 copies. The record company
refused to fund the release of a single from it, so No Doubt
released its only single "Trapped in a Box" independently. Since
the band signed out of Interscope, the band independently
produced and released a follow-up to No Doubt titled The Beacon
Street Collection in 1995; it had a better commercial
performance, selling 100,000 copies, leading Interscope to
finance and support their third album Tragic Kingdom.
