The Wheel 07:33 - -- Release notes ---------------------------------------------------- -- - Slaegt probably released Denmark's best album of the year in 2017 and I guess both their label and all band mates do understand that the momentum does not have anything to do with a save button that can buy some time for you either to rest, or to prepare your new attack, or even for celebrating your success. "The Wheel" continues from the exact same point where their highly critical acclaimed sophomore record, "Domus Mysterium" stopped. The formula may seem similar, if not the same, but now the songs last less and sound rather more focused. There's a brilliant presence of many N.W.O.B.H.M. elements blended with melodic black metal that makes the result ultra charming. I think that Slaegt is something like the black metal answer to Tribulation. Theatrical and sometimes poetic as a goth fog, and with arena sized riffage that still remains edgy and furious blast beats that serve as camouflage of tradition values of the genre. Claustrophobic in the veins of post punk, but definitely metal to the bone Slaegt composes a magical escape land, if not the soundtrack of utopia. I have to remind you though that All utopias -and probably their soundtracks too...-despite their differences share something common: they are all based in the future.
