release notes:
TAFKAF - the artist formally known as Fuschimuschi is back.
We're talking about Thomas Matheis, now travelling under the
chef alias THOMMY!
After a short, intensive indie electro-pop career in
Düsseldorf, with releases on a major and Aphex Twin's
Rephlex label, after completing his art studies, after
working as a presenter on the television station VIVA2 and
running a 70s retro wave hi-fi shop, THOMMY's foray into
urbanity seemed to be over. He looked for new adventures in
the rural Allgäu region, found the love of his life there -
or rather on the way there - and has been running a cosy
restaurant and guesthouse with her for a few years now.
But music unexpectedly made its way back into this thing
called life: something was missing. THOMMY had to buy an
electric bass and an AKAI MPC workstation and got started.
After the last roast onion had been served, the last
Meckatzer beer tapped and the last dishwasher put away, he
was drawn to the attic night after night, to the mini studio
with a small vocal booth.
The result is an album that, miraculously, sounds more like
LA than the tranquil Allgäu and can be placed somewhere
between Thundercat and Johnny `Guitar' Watson on the lovers'
shelf.
It is truly amazing how such urbanity can be created in
music in the attic of an old inn in the Allgäu. And not on a
clear computer screen, but on the 7-inch MPC-One display.
`Whenever the RAM was full and the engine started to jerk,
I knew the song was finished,' says the funky chef about the
production process for `Lemme cook for you', which will now
be released on the international label Fun In The Church on
November 1st 2024.
`It really is a great honour for me to release this album
on our label,' says Maurice Summen, label boss from Berlin.
`We were all big Fuschimuschi fans in the 90s! Well, what do
you mean everyone? The ones with the `cool knowledge' were!'
Speaking of the 90s and cool knowledge: The cover artwork
is by Berlin rap legend Fumanschu, who has been setting
standards in product design for many years.
In a way, the album is a greeting from the kitchen of the
coolest 90s dudes into the present! Especially now, when the
90s vibes are so socially acceptable again, especially among
young people. And Tommy's contemporaries are simply
delighted about a sensational comeback!
This record production is also supported by the legendary
Meckatzer brewery.
Cheers!
