Enjoy this unique Techno set 1REAL Team about Umek Uros Umek is undisputedly the King of Slovenian DJ culture; his cred is impeccable. As a nipper growing up in culturally repressed communist Yugoslavia, his dream was to become a DJ, but it wasn't until the regime collapsed in the early 90s that electronic music and vinyl really spread beyond the iron curtain. As soon as he could, he invested in some turntables and simple gear, and began organising nights, playing out, and producing his own music. Originally making techno ('the most innovative type of music') because of the limitations of his studio equipment, he has since then remained true to his musical roots. A prolific producer who has released in the region of 30 tracks, Umek's next offering ('Fenaton/Jakaton' on Bugged Out! Recordings) is to be released the week following his appearance in Manchester. Umek, who uses 4 decks to create a more energetic set, mixes up sounds ranging from tech-house to electro to hard, banging techno. His first appearance at Intergalactic Funk, "really filled the place up, it totally went off. Here in the north west he has god-like status in underground circles, and for us he'll be playing on a less commercial, deeper tip than he might elsewhere", says promoter Rich.
