The band's seventh album (their first together since 2010's Barking and the band's first new music since the London Olympics Opening Ceremony) is something of a miracle of chance and controlled chaos. The fact that Karl Hyde and Rick Smith have made their best album in years is all thanks to a strict writing process undertaken by the duo in the spring of 2015. After thirty;five years working together, its implementation proved utterly transformative. If Barbara Barbara, we face a shining future exists as a result of self;imposed parameters and the desire to explore ideas in close quarters, that method helped create a spontaneous, frenetic energy - that other thing in the room. It's the kind usually displayed by bands at the start of their journeys rather than those celebrating a three and a half decade working relationship.
