A pretty uninspired collection - this cd was stuck on dec.issue of (british) Q magazine. Some hyped british acts, a couple of decent numbers (ff, libertines) but you probably heard'em a hundred times over. Nothing that'd make my personal top 50 list for 2004 either.. Well libertines perhaps. Have to question the inclusion of a best-of the year disc on their magazine with more than two months left of it, too. Just what ever the editors believe their average reader (18 y/o, brit) wants to hear ended up on it I suppose; "THERE ARE many reasons to savour the year 2004 in music. Here are 15 of them. 2004 has unquestionably been a good one for music. We have been blessed by the emergence of a number of fine new bands and artists in the UK who have been heralded both critically and commercially. They have also encompassed a broad range of music with real quality. This, of course, tallies perfectly with Q's remit: to bring you the good stuff from all corners of the musical world. Glasses should be raised then to the likes of Keane, Franz Ferdinand, Jamelia, The Killers, Interpol, The Libertines, Mylo, Dizzee Rascal, Kasabian, and Secret Machines, all of whom are featured on this Best Of 2004 CD. 2004 has also been a good year for more established acts. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Wilco and Green Day are among a host of bands who served up vintage records over the past 12 months, and each of their tracks included on Best Of 2004 highlight this. Remarkably, it has been 25 and 10 years respectively since The Clash released London Calling and Jeff Buckley Grace. As you will hear on the reissued Train In Vain and Dream Brother, a quarter of a century and a decade on, both records still sound every bit as wonderful now as then. This remains the challenge for every band: to make music which continues to thrill and inspire through the years. There are bound to be songs and artists included here which you haven't yet encountered. We hope and trust that we introduce you to something fresh and exciting via this CD. We aim to do just that each and every month through Q magainze. Enjoy the music." - Paul Rees, Q Editor. http://www.q4music.com --- Group News: JAFFA is looking to affiliate on reasonably secure GBIT places.
