The London Urban Collective aimed to work with 30 young people from north London to make a collective urban music album for commercial release featuring hip hop, garage, grime, soul, funk and roots. One year on and the project is funded and live thanks to Islington Council, Arsenal Regeneration Team and New Deal for Musicians. Top urban music PR company The Playcentre and online music service KarmaDownload.com are also partners to the unique project. In August 2004 more than 120 people auditioned at Queensland Multimedia Centre, thirty were chosen and became the London Urban Collective. In just nine weeks they have written, rehearsed and recorded an 18 track album featuring guest vocals from Skinnyman, Shystie and Gemma Fox. On December 9th 2004 the Collective play live at Islington's Carling Academy and 2005 sees three music videos on their way as this debut album launches into the mainstream.
