For the first time there was a collective effort to raise the international image-- in 1972 the record industry put together the Maple Music Junket(brainchild of pop writer Ritchie Yorke)and flew in 100 music journalists from 25 countries to see concerts by 40 of our premiere artists. The labels began planning long range marketing strategies for newly signed talent.Many radio stations began to give Canadian artists equal time on their playlists- to enhance this situation further the Canadian Radio-Television Commission (CRTC) introduced a controversial Canadian Content Quota requiring domestic AM stations to programme 30% Canadian content.With this assist, the cream was going to rise to the top.
