Since the early tremors of War Dub and the Random Trio masterpieces, Tectonic has been at the vanguard of dubstep. Over the decades it has diversified its bonds into roughly related forms of 140BPM pressure, always rooted in heavy-ass bass and a certain Bristolian sense of moody rufige. Tectonic Sound can now be heard as a distant echo of the labels early group portrait Tectonic Plates, and of the sort of multi-plate D&B comps for the late 90s that helped set the tone for dubstep, cueing masses of worm-charming vibrations primed to go together in the blend. The crispy, deep-fried swing of 2562s archival cut Overcome is the first weve heard from that killer project in over a decade, and one of many highlights here along with the eye-shut breakstep of Dreamscapes by Shed, the skippy lope of Appleblims Ghost Coast, and cold murder of Cokis Angel of Death from the old skool players.
