The rest of the album may │ │be awful, and all one can get back to is that one track. │ │Fortunately this is not the case with this album. │ │ │ │My main focus on this double-cd is of course James Plotkin │ │and he is present on two tracks here: KK Null/Jim Plotkin's │ │Lost (Held Under) and Scorn's Silver Rain Fell (Deep Water Mix). │ │Both are remixes, so it's not exactly the same old album │ │version you'll have to sit through once again. Still, this stuff is │ │not really must have, so it is very likely you might survive │ │without this double album. This is a nice compilation though, │ │and at least it has a strong theme to it, so the music style │ │and quality doesn't vary that radically from track to track. And │ │of course there is the advantage of a compilation: you get to │ │hear interesting artists you wouldn't perhaps normally hear. │ │Many artists on this double album are top of the crop in the │ │field of ambient so it's not that bad a deal. │ │ │ │So what about the Plotkin-tracks that are presented on this │ │album? KK Null/Jim Plotkin piece Lost (Held Under) begins │ │this two hour plus ambient journey beautifully. The track is │ │Plotkin's remix of a track from the Aurora-album. It differs │ │from the album-version quite a bit. The atmosphere is a bit │ │more grand on this version, it has more reverb and space, so │ │the sound is more vast. The track is almost four minutes shorter │ │than the original (well, the remix still clocks at 7.44), and less noisy. │ │It is more minimal and the atmosphere is less menacing. You can │ │probably live without this version, but if you like Aurora-album, │ │this remix is a nice addition to those ten tracks. │ │ │ │The Scorn-track might be from the Scorn album Ellipsis, which │ │has remixes of Evanescence material. I haven't heard that one, │ │so I cannot say. Silver Rain Fell is quite a brilliant ambient dub │ │track. Plotkin's contributions are not that grand, but I his guitar/guitar │ │synth adds nice elements to the music. │ │ │ │The other highlights include :Zoviet*France:, Paul Schⁿtze, │ │Aphex Twin, Final and Lull. The style of the album ranges from │ │quiet mellow ambient even to quite harsh noise. So I think there's │ │something for everyone to enjoy as long as you enjoy ambient in the │ │first place. │ │ │ │This cd is not very easy to find.
