│ │
│ Just a reminder to keep a look out for the new Triple 5 Soul │
│ Promo Mix CD, "Universal Language", compiled by Waajeed, which │
│ will go into circulation in July. The cd pays tribute to │
│ Kraftwerk and Detroit's early techno pioneers and also features │
│ Waajeed's re-edit of Marvin Gaye's "I Want You" that has been │
│ making a lot of noise lately. │
│ │
│ Waajeed's Triple 5 Soul Mix CD is officially in circulation!! │
│ This hour long mix features rare jems from Waajeed's extensive │
│ record collection (which contains records from all four corners │
│ of the world)!! The cd also features original production and re │
│ -edits from Waajeed himself, including his Marvin Gaye "I Want │
│ You" re-edit. │
│ │
│ Also, since the release of Waajeed's Triple 5 Soul Mix CD, our │
│ email account has been bombarded with questions about the cd. │
│ So, we decided to sit Waajeed down to answer some of these │
│ questions we've been getting. So I hope you guys understand that │
│ we will not be responding to any further questions regarding │
│ this cd-this interview is it. This cd is not available in │
│ stores, so get your signed, limited edition(there are only 2,000 │
│ in circulation) copy while supplies last. Enjoy!! │
│ │
│ │
│ Interview with Waajeed │
│ │
│ 1. What is the concept of the cd? │
│ It's basically what I talked about in the liner notes of the cd. │
│ Over the last few years I've collected and traded music of this │
│ nature with other people of the same taste all over the world. │
│ Many of these people came from backgrounds very different from │
│ mine, spoke different languages, but we were able to connect │
│ through this music. Hence, my title for the cd, "Universal │
│ Language." │
│ │
│ 2. What's the deal with the cover art? │
│ It was done by ghavisualagency (ghava.com). I actually talked to │
│ T5S regarding the cover art and told them I wanted the cover to │
│ incorporate elements of past Kraftwerk album covers and a bit of │
│ my own flavor. │
│ │
│ 3. So, is this cd representative of what you listen to at home? │
│ Yes. This is the stuff that inspires what I do in general. When │
│ I dj, I don't play a lot of this stuff because it is from my │
│ private collection. │
│ │
│ 4. Do you have a stockpile of more electronic influenced beats? │
│ Yes, tons. The next BPM album will be more electronic based, │
│ it's time I let some of this stuff out. │
│ │
│ 5. When were you first introduced to Kraftwerk and Detroit │
│ Techno? │
│ I was raised on Detroit Techno, as a local dj. I was introduced │
│ to Kraftwerk through my uncle. He was a bit more eclectic than │
│ my father was, as far as his record collection. │
│ │
│ 6. What is your favorite song on the album? │
│ The Marvin Gaye re-edit. It was cool to be able to combine, │
│ soul, electronic, and funk in the same track. I'm thinking about │
│ doing a 12" with some other Marvin edits I've got . . . │
│ │
│ 7. Who is your favorite Detroit Techno producer? │
│ Juan Atkins aka Cybotron. The dude is a genius! │
│ │
│ 8. I heard that track 11, "Tron", took you a long time to │
│ finish. Is that true? │
│ Yeah, it took about 6 months. There's a ton of layers in that │
│ shit. I added a little bit more every couple days and finished │
│ about half a year later. │
│ │
│ 9. How prevalent is this music in Detroit? Is this really what │
│ they play in the clubs? │
│ All day every day. Most people don't even know that they are │
│ listening to Kraftwerk because it is played with other Detroit │
│ Booty/Ghetto Tech tracks. It's kind of strange to see hardcore │
│ ghetto chicks poppin to this music made in Dusseldorf, Germany. │
│ It's crazy! │
│ │
│ 10. What is that part at the end of the cd after track 22? │
│ It's part of the movie Close Encounters. I used it to sum up the │
│ theme of the mix cd. │
│ │
│ 11. Is there anything that you wanted to put on the mix cd and │
│ couldn't? │
│ Tons of stuff. You'll have to wait for part two . . . │
│ │
│ 12. If someone is new to this sound, what album would you │
│ suggest they buy to get started? │
│ Anything from Kraftwerk, Juan Atkins, or Derrick May. │
│ │
│ 13. Tracklisting? │
│ Do your own diggin! │
│ │
│ │
│ │
