Most kids who cut their teeth ║ │ │║ on the early 1990s band only remember the ║ │ │║ incredible guitarists the band hired and the ║ │ │║ crappy songs they wrote. But this...THIS...is ║ │ │║ the real Whitesnake. Tough and bluesy Mickey ║ │ │║ Moodey and Bernie Marsden lay down boogie riffs ║ │ │║ and the band as a whole does its best Foghat ║ │ │║ impression. I always considered the original ║ │ │║ whitesnake to be a poor man's Foghat or a ║ │ │║ homeless man's Deep Purple but that's almost an ║ │ │║ insult. This is a decent album, from a pretty ║ │ │║ decent bluesy/boogie/rock band. This was not, ║ │ │║ however, a sign of things to come with the ║ │ │║ Vandenberg years, this effort is honest rock and ║ │ │║ roll. ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ Last of the true great Whitesnake albums. ║ │ │║ Everything after this one was headed for hair ║ │ │║ band influence. Whitesnake was a band who took ║ │ │║ off where Deep Purple would have gone minus ║ │ │║ Blackmore. While Rainbow was doing their ║ │ │║ stuff,Whitesnake was really rocking it too. This ║ │ │║ album is really blues -based but extremely good. ║ │ │║ Lord, Paice and Coverdale are excellent. ║ │ │║ Coverdale really improves from Purple and ║ │ │║ doesn't moan as much. Others to check out is ║ │ │║ Love Hunter and "Live" ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ The title says it all. Every song is a killer. ║ │ │║ This is ║ │ │║ what great rock music is suppose to sound like. ║ │ │║ I think ║ │ │║ it's one of Whitesnake's best of the early ║ │ │║ albums and ║ │ │║ I highly recommend it. Come n' Get this! ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ "Come An' Get It" is not a bad record. It's just ║ │ │║ not particularly good. ║ │ │║ It does have its moments - "Don't Break My Heart ║ │ │║ Again" is a fine, catchy rocker, "Would I Lie To ║ │ │║ You" gets a really good groove going, and the ║ │ │║ piano-driven barroom boogie of "Wine, Women And ║ │ │║ Song" is good fun. And I can see why someone ║ │ │║ would want to listen to the acoustic ballad ║ │ │║ "Till The Day I Die" more than once. ║ │ │║ But the rest is indistinctive...hard to fault, ║ │ │║ perhaps, but even harder to praise. Singer and ║ │ │║ band-owner David Coverdale's own interest in the ║ │ │║ group seems to have been slipping around this ║ │ │║ time, and "Come An' Get It" shows it. ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ "Lonely Days, Lonely Nights" shows potential but ║ │ │║ doesn't quite live up to its initial promise. ║ │ │║ "Hot Stuff" plods along like third-rate Deep ║ │ │║ Purple. "Child Of Babylon" tries to be epic and ║ │ │║ can't quite pull it off, and the remaining songs ║ │ │║ are simply mediocre, run-of-the mill rock songs ║ │ │║ without the hooks that made "Ready An' Willing", ║ │ │║ "Saints & Sinners" and "Slide It In" such fun ║ │ │║ and enjoyable records. Again, these aren't bad ║ │ │║ songs, they just lack that certain something. ║ │ │║ And I'm afraid that no amount of condescending ║ │ │║ comments will change that. Can't you just focus ║ │ │║ on your own review, Mr zzzshopper, instead of ║ │ │║ picking on mine? ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ Anyway. Fans of the original Whitesnake lineup, ║ │ │║ before the hair metal days, will want a listen, ║ │ │║ but this often generic record is not the place ║ │ │║ to start if you're new to the band. There are a ║ │ │║ couple of gems here, but it's not one that I ║ │ │║ listen to from beginning to end, and there is a ║ │ │║ reason why almost none of the songs from "Come ║ │ │║ An' Get It" ever popped up in Whitesnake's live ║ │ │║ sets. Compared to the two inspired albums that ║ │ │║ followed it, "Come An' Get It" struggles with an ║ │ │║ abiding sense of indifference. ║ │ │║ Three very small stars. ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ I loved it when it came out, and now, twenty ║ │ │║ years on, I still like it. It's aged well -- or, ║ │ │║ rather, it simply didn't (age.) Another thing ║ │ │║ that's striking about this album: it's very even ║ │ │║ -- there are no clunkers on it. (Which, as we ║ │ │║ all know, pretty much never happens.) ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ I was amuzed by some of the reviews below, btw; ║ │ │║ it just shows you how different people are. For ║ │ │║ example, to say that "Slip it in" is a better ║ │ │║ album is nuts (imho), 'coz it's mostly crap ║ │ │║ (imho), with perhaps one listenable piece on it ║ │ │║ ("Hungry For Love") and the rest being just a ║ │ │║ compendium of tired musical cliches with a very ║ │ │║ strong pop influence; there are passages there ║ │ │║ that smell of elevator music, really -- and I'm ║ │ │║ not even starting about the lyrics! Can't say ║ │ │║ that about "Come and Get it". ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ To say that "Child of Babylon" "tries to be epic ║ │ │║ and can't quite pull it off, and the remanining ║ │ │║ six songs are simply mediocre" hmmm... I don't ║ │ │║ know. Compared with what? Compared with "Burn" ║ │ │║ or "Tarot Woman", yeah, they're mediocre, but ║ │ │║ then Whitesnake is no Deep Purple or Rainbow, ║ │ │║ right? To each his own, let's not compare. That ║ │ │║ aside, I think that "Child of Babylon" actually ║ │ │║ "pulls it off" quite well; the piece is ║ │ │║ emotional, dramatic, and very juicy; Dave's ║ │ │║ vocals are perfect there, that's just his kind ║ │ │║ of song, theatrics and all. Well written, well ║ │ │║ played, and well sang; no complaints -- from ║ │ │║ this listener at least. The closing song, "Till ║ │ │║ the Day I Die", is a chef d'oeuvre, starting ║ │ │║ with a remote, sorta pensive acoustic guitar and ║ │ │║ very mild vocals, and of course, in due time, ║ │ │║ escalating into a hard dramatic fury. ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ The rest are good too -- like I've said, this is ║ │ │║ the only album I have where I never skip ║ │ │║ anything. "Come and Get It" is one of the two ║ │ │║ best pieces by Whitesnake -- the other one being ║ │ │║ "Saints and Sinners". If I were to compare them, ║ │ │║ I'd say SaS is a tad better made; it's heavier, ║ │ │║ thicker, richer; it's got real phat ('scuse the ║ │ │║ language) arrangements -- though! though otoh, ║ │ │║ it's not as even: there we do have a clunker or ║ │ │║ two. "Come and Get It" is lighter, more playful ║ │ │║ and melodical; with more gratifying, frequently ║ │ │║ subtle and always tasteful guitar work (imo.) ║ │ │║ But both are good; if you're new to WS, and want ║ │ │║ to quickly get the essense of it, get these two ║ │ │║ albums (and you can pretty much stop there: the ║ │ │║ band was not all that creative and pretty much ║ │ │║ self-destructed after SaS, I think; at least I ║ │ │║ couldn't stand their "Slip of the Tongue". But ║ │ │║ then I can't stand Vai and his ilk, so maybe ║ │ │║ it's just me.) Well, I'm deviating; what we need ║ │ │║ to know here is that "Come and Get It" is a ║ │ │║ well-made album by good musicians featuring the ║ │ │║ very outstanding David Coverdale on vocals; ║ │ │║ recommended. ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ COME AN' GET IT is a wonderful early Whitesnake ║ │ │║ album. It comes from the years when the band ║ │ │║ were an English hard-rock version of the Outlaws ║ │ │║ rather than a high-class version of Poison. The ║ │ │║ songs are hard-hitting and direct, and although ║ │ │║ the group would make even better records with ║ │ │║ SAINTS & SINNERS and SLIDE IT IN, you can't go ║ │ │║ wrong by buying COME AN' GET IT. ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ ║ │ │╚════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │╔═════════════════════╗ │ │║ Release Tracklist ║ │ │╚═════════════════════╩══════════════════════════════════════════ │ │ │ │ 01 - Come An' Get It [03:58] │ │ 02 - Hot Stuff [03:23] │ │ 03 - Don't Break My Heart Again [04:02] │ │ 04 - Lonely Days, Lonely Nights [04:14] │ │ 05 - Wine, Women An' Song [03:43] │ │ 06 - Child Of Babylon [04:50] │ │ 07 - Would I Lie To You [04:30] │ │ 08 - Girl [03:55] │ │ 09 - Hit An' Run [03:22] │ │ 10 - Till The Day I Die [04:27] │ │ │ │ Total Length : [40:24 minn │ │ │ │ │ │ ▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ ╔═════════════════════╗ │ │ ║ Greetings To: ║ │ │ ╚═════════════════════╝ │ │ │ │ Too all people who contributes to make this │ │ archive of good music in a exceptional conditions │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │■ ■│ └───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
