│║ Description : ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ Even though they were a global chart-topping, ║ │
│║ hit-making machine less than ten years prior, ║ │
│║ David Coverdale came up empty when he tried to ║ │
│║ find a U.S.-based record company to issue the ║ │
│║ group's 1997 release, Restless Heart (available ║ │
│║ Stateside only as an import). To Coverdale's ║ │
│║ credit, he did not attempt to give Whitesnake a ║ │
│║ modern-day makeover (which so many pop- metal ║ │
│║ bands of the late '80s did post-Nirvana, and ║ │
│║ failed miserably), as he follows in the same ║ │
│║ melodic rock mold of Whitesnake's previous two ║ │
│║ releases, 1987's Whitesnake and 1989's Slip of ║ │
│║ the Tongue. Unlike the late-'80s edition of ║ │
│║ Whitesnake (which included Steve Vai, Tommy ║ │
│║ Aldridge, etc.), the 1998 version is not a ║ │
│║ showcase for rock's most renowned hired guns. In ║ │
│║ addition to Coverdale, the only holdover from ║ │
│║ the group's previous album is guitarist Adrian ║ │
│║ Vandenberg, who FINALLY gets the chance to ║ │
│║ appear on a full-length Whitesnake recording ║ │
│║ (after several close calls on the aforementioned ║ │
│║ releases). Instead of walloping listeners over ║ │
│║ the skull with an album opening rocker, ║ │
│║ Coverdale kicks things off on a mellow note, ║ │
│║ with the bluesy ballad "Don't Fade Away," but ║ │
│║ harder-edged material soon follows, including ║ │
│║ the riff-rocking title track, and "Crying," ║ │
│║ which shows the singer's Zeppelin fixation ║ │
│║ remains. The times may have changed, but David ║ │
│║ Coverdale is content with his old sound -- and ║ │
│║ longtime Whitesnake fans will be pleased. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ This album takes me back to earlier whitesnake ║ │
│║ like slide it in or come and get it. it's just ║ │
│║ great simple rock but more bluesy and hard rock ║ │
│║ like before. Has great slow songs as well. Any ║ │
│║ fan ║ │
│║ of Whitesnake would love this. The song Too Many ║ │
│║ Tears should've been a huge hit as well as the ║ │
│║ rocker woman trouble blues. I can't stop ║ │
│║ listening to it. get it now! ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ This cd should be credited to David ║ │
│║ Coverdale....It has more in common w/ his 1977 ║ │
│║ Northwinds and 1976 White Snake solo records ║ │
│║ than any Whitesnake records of the 70's or 80's. ║ │
│║ Restless Heart is a mature, passionate, honest, ║ │
│║ introspective, beautiful and sincere release by ║ │
│║ one of rocks greatest talents. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ Don't Fade Away could be a Bryan Ferry ║ │
│║ song.....beautiful harmonies w. female ║ │
│║ singer....baby making music! All in the Name of ║ │
│║ Love has same vibe. Restless Heart is a 'hard ║ │
│║ song' but more like light rock...I have great ║ │
│║ appreciation for Adrian V. on this record....his ║ │
│║ style comes through, not the "keep up w/ the ║ │
│║ Vai's and Viv's" approach I saw in concert in ║ │
│║ '87....Very tasteful and emotional ║ │
│║ playing....Too Many Tears is stunningly ║ │
│║ beautiful..... ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ If you are a 70's Coverdale fan you'll love this ║ │
│║ record...If you are a "Sleezy 80's ║ │
│║ stripper-chasing-reverse headstock airbrushed ║ │
│║ Jackson GIT lip pout clown w/ highlighted hair" ║ │
│║ (I obviously never went through that 'phase') ║ │
│║ you may want to go and do some research and move ║ │
│║ on at some point (ie. Coverdale was in a funky ║ │
│║ soulful Deep Purple, then went soulfully mellow ║ │
│║ on 2 criminally unknown solo LPs: who knew? you ║ │
│║ can close you mouth now:). ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ As a huge Coverdale fan that has all 16 of his ║ │
│║ studio releases Restless Heart is up there w. ║ │
│║ the best of them....check this record ║ │
│║ out..you'll be pleasantly surprised by it's ║ │
│║ depth and sophistication. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ I must say that this CD is awesome... I am never ║ │
│║ tired of listen to it.. It is very romantic, but ║ │
│║ no commercial.. I recommend listening to it ║ │
│║ while being with the one you love, and you will ║ │
│║ see the magic and beauty of these songs.. Lyrics ║ │
│║ are also a masterpiece... Warning: When you will ║ │
│║ listen to this CD, your heart may bleed... ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ I was curious to find out why this album was not ║ │
│║ realized in America after WhiteSnake had such a ║ │
│║ smash with their previous album. Now I know! ║ │
│║ This album is flat out terrible. Being a huge ║ │
│║ David Coverdale fan, it pains me to say that, ║ │
│║ but it's true. It has none of the bluesy sound ║ │
│║ from the early Whitesnake albums or the pizazz ║ │
│║ of their 1987 album. Half hearted perfomances at ║ │
│║ best. Anyone who gave this album a good review ║ │
│║ must love David Coverdale so much that they ║ │
│║ can't be objective any more. Sorry David, it's ║ │
│║ terrible, and you know it! THAT's why it wasn't ║ │
│║ released in America! The record company must ║ │
│║ have known after one listen that it would not go ║ │
│║ over well here. In comparison, David's latest ║ │
│║ album, Into the Light, is far better. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ A great comeback album and another Whitesnake ║ │
│║ incarnation that revisits Coverdale's melodic ║ │
│║ and bluesy roots, having more in common with his ║ │
│║ solo albums from the seventies than with the ║ │
│║ late eighties hair metal. ║ │
