│║ Description : ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ Following up the splendid Saints & Sinners album ║ │
│║ was no easy task, but 1984's Slide It In turned ║ │
│║ out to be an even greater triumph for David ║ │
│║ Coverdale's Whitesnake. From the boisterous ║ │
│║ machismo of "Spit It Out" and "All or Nothing" ║ │
│║ to the resigned despair of "Gambler" and ║ │
│║ "Standing in the Shadow," and the embarrassingly ║ │
│║ silly title track, everything seems to click. ║ │
│║ For hit singles, look no further than the twin ║ │
│║ guitar attack of "Guilty of Love" and the sheer ║ │
│║ poetry and emotion of "Love Ain't No Stranger," ║ │
│║ one of the decade's greatest power ballads, bar ║ │
│║ none. Not to be outdone, "Slow an' Easy" is a ║ │
│║ masterpiece of sexual tension and the kind of ║ │
│║ power-blues which no one does as well as ║ │
│║ Whitesnake. On a quirky historical note, ║ │
│║ Coverdale fired most of the band soon after the ║ │
│║ album's release, replacing them with younger, ║ │
│║ prettier faces with which to better conquer ║ │
│║ America. For that purpose, Geffen Records even ║ │
│║ released a re-recorded version of Slide It In ║ │
│║ with flashy soloing from new guitarist John ║ │
│║ Sykes, sparking an ongoing debate as to which ║ │
│║ version is better. ║ │

│║ ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ From what I have read in a couple of rock guides ║ │
│║ this album was finished in 1983 with Mick Moody ║ │
│║ and Mel Galley on guitars. It was later re-mixed ║ │
│║ for America, at which point Moody left and ║ │
│║ former Tygers Of Pan Tang/Thin Lizzy guitarist ║ │
│║ John Sykes joined the band. Sykes had recorded ║ │
│║ the excellent Thunder And Lighting with Thin ║ │
│║ Lizzy in 1983. I am not sure how much input he ║ │
│║ had on SIN but I remember he was the only ║ │
│║ guitarist to appear in the Slow N Easy video. ║ │
│║ Anyways, I have heard every Whitesnake album and ║ │
│║ this one is their best. The riffs are good, the ║ │
│║ solos are melodic, the choruses are catchy, and ║ │
│║ the rhythm section is tight. The production by ║ │
│║ the one and only Martin Birch is very clear and ║ │
│║ robust. I like every song with the exception of ║ │
│║ just a couple tracks so I won't bother going ║ │
│║ into each one. Just get the album if you don't ║ │
│║ already have it and enjoy good early 80s hard ║ │
│║ rock. Four and a half stars! ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ Buy the time 1984's Slide it In came out, ║ │
│║ Whitesnake had been around for seven years. I ║ │
│║ guess the time was right in the early 80's for ║ │
│║ Whitesnake's bluesy hard rock. Before the early ║ │
│║ 80's Whitesnake had been more popular in Europe ║ │
│║ than in the U.S.A., but finally in 1984 they got ║ │
│║ their chance in the U.S. Whitesnake is a great ║ │
│║ band, songs like Slide it In, Guilty of Love, ║ │
│║ and Slow An Easy still sound great coming out of ║ │
│║ the radio in 2000's. It's a crime that ║ │
│║ Whitesnake is globbed in with the hair bands, ║ │
│║ this is a great band! ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ Coverdale was peaking at this point with some ║ │
│║ great rock songs ║ │
│║ and the production and playing is brilliant. It ║ │
│║ all clicked. ║ │
│║ Is is just me or does it sound like Sykes ║ │
│║ doesn't play a lot ║ │
│║ on this album? It doesn't matter it's still ║ │
│║ great Whitesnake ║ │
│║ music and I say it's a must for fans of this ║ │
│║ kind of music. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ There are three or four Whitesnake albums which ║ │
│║ are pretty much a must-have if you're a fan, and ║ │
│║ "Slide It In" is one of them. ║ │
│║ It was originally released in 1984, and shortly ║ │
│║ afterwards frontman David Coverdale was the only ║ │
│║ original member of the band, surrounding himself ║ │
│║ with young, pretty faces (and huge hairdos) so ║ │
│║ as to better conquer America. ║ │
│║ He even re-recorded some of the band's best ║ │
│║ songs in pop-metal fashion (argh!), so "Slide It ║ │
│║ In" is really the last "real" Whitesnake album, ║ │
│║ or at least the last album where Whitesnake ║ │
│║ still sounded like the magnificent, bluesy hard ║ │
│║ rock band from London that they were from the ║ │
│║ beginning. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ It is filled with big, muscular riffs and great ║ │
│║ hooks; catchy power ballads ("Slow An' Easy" and ║ │
│║ the classic "Love Ain't No Stranger"), and ║ │
│║ genuine hard rock ("Gambler", "Slide It In", ║ │
│║ "All Or Nothing", and the superbly catchy ║ │
│║ "Guilty Of Love"). ║ │
│║ Among the best songs are the mid-tempo rockers ║ │
│║ "Standing In The Shadow" and "Give Me More ║ │
│║ Time", and the two power ballads, but virtually ║ │
│║ every song here packs a serious wallop, not ║ │
│║ least the tough "Hungry For Love", and the ║ │
│║ almost AC/DC-like "Give Me More Time" with its ║ │
│║ stop-start guitar riff.) ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ There is no need to program anything out here. ║ │
│║ "Slide It In", with is silly macho lyrics, ║ │
│║ shout-along choruses and all, is a fun rock n' ║ │
│║ roll record and a recommended antidote to all ║ │
│║ the serious music you should listen to as well, ║ │
│║ like Dylan and Neil Young ;o) ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ The 1984 Whitesnake "Slide it In" band was ║ │
│║ actually in transition to what was to become the ║ │
│║ biggest selling Whitesnake band in the early ║ │
│║ 1990s (with new guitarists and others) "Slide It ║ │
│║ In" however is respectable with newcomer John ║ │
│║ Sykes (Thin Lizzy) laying down remarkable guitar ║ │
│║ along with veteran blues slinger Mel Galley, and ║ │
│║ Jon Lord, Neil Murray, and Cozy "I'm dead now" ║ │
│║ Powell. Coverdale's songs are good, too, most ║ │
│║ being written with longtime partner Galley, and ║ │
│║ one with venerable ex-whitesnake guitarist ║ │
│║ Mickey Moody. Hooks are everywhere and Coverdale ║ │
│║ just seems to along for the ride as this is a ║ │
│║ top-notch act delivering a formidable sound. Of ║ │
│║ course, it all sounds a bit dated now, but such ║ │
│║ as life. If you don't know it, get it. ║ │
│║ Production is very good and stills cranks loud ║ │
│║ very well. ║ │
