I realize that's a bold statement, but there's a good reason this CD currently has an average sale price of $230 on Discogs, with a high of $1,300. [the OG copies from '95, not the bootleg re-prints] Not only is it rare in terms of quantity, it is also rare in terms of quality. And not too many folks other than people who grew up in New Orleans in the early 90's and hardcore hiphop heads/collectors even know it exists... Young Gangstas are: K-Syco ("the left hand killer"), and Ghetto Red ("the ol' style dope dealer"). Coming out of one of the most dangerous, grimiest, filthiest fucking heroin-infested 1990's housing projects in the 9th Ward of New Orleans, Louisiana. Production of the album is handled exclusively by the notorious Money Mike, and the 3 of them come together on this album like ... well, you just need to hear it. I've heard a LOT of underground rap records in my days, but nothing quite sounds like this one. It's a cut above just about anything else I can think of. It's almost always a silly idea to try to quantify a list of "top 10" [there are too many candidates to narrow it down that far], but if I absoltuely had to, this one would be somewhere reallllly close to the top without a doubt, and possibly be the top. The way these youngsters, particularly K-Syco, can flow, and how well their style meshes with the beats on this album... well, like I said, it's something special. It's a 'Nawlins record for sure, but it was created before the stripper 'booty bounce' style of music took over down there. This is FAR more hardcore and lyrical than that stuff. It was also before Master P & friends shook up the entire music industry establishment -- and they did that from the housing projects 2-3 blocks away from the ones these 2 guys stayed in! I gotta think that's part of the reason it's as unknown as it is - it probably got overshadowed by the No Limit juggernaut, and lost in the shuffle after Cash Money blew up. In my opinion, it's the best rap album to ever come out of the 504, bar none. Not even Magnolia (Soulja) Slim touches it. Neither does Mr. Serv-On, Juvy, or Myztikal. They all put out great albums, classics in their own right, but sorry, Pre-Meditated Gangstarism is some ooooother shit... Unfortuneatly, this is the one and only album by Young Gangstas. Some time after it's debut, K-Syco was murdered, and Ghetto Red was incarcerated until hell freezes over for allegedly trafficking cocaine and heroin. Rest in Peace K-Syco, and keep your head up Ghetto Red -- you guys made one HELL of a CD. Download this. I ain't playin'.
