Yves Dormoy never abandons principles ▓▌ ▓████▓▌ of clarity and restraint even as he throws off ▓▌ ▓████▓▌ naturalism to attempt the most far-fetchedo ▓▌ ▓████▓▌ marryings of sound. Wonderfully limpid phrases on ▓▌ ▓████▓▌ the saxophone, his own favourite instrument, are ▓▌ ▓████▓▌ allowed to juxtapose with the most astonishing ▓▌ ▓████▓▌ elements, in textures that are sometimes acoustic, ▓▌ ▓████▓▌ sometimes electronic, sometimes a form of bruitage, ▓▌ ▓████▓▌ without ever becoming blurred. This seems to ▓▌ ▓████▓▌ conform to some moral code of mixing: a mixing ▓▌ ▓████▓▌ without blending, one that never loses track, ▓▌ ▓████▓▌ letting even its most fragile components articulate ▓▌ ▓████▓▌ distinctly. Then thereÆs the musicÆs uncanny ▓▌ ▓████▓▌ dramatic drive, its art of suspense, the way it ▓▌ ▓████▓▌ avoids resolution, hardly developing, its constant ▓▌ ▓████▓▌ underlying tension.
