It was created by african slaves training themselves ready for fighting which turned into a dance-fight, well known in west Africa and Brazil. It has become a complete art-form combining music, song and dance. The music blends the sounds of the berimbau, the bluesy slide guitar, african sanza and a jazzy flavoured trumpet. The styles that meet here are pop, electronic and traditional music emanating from the meeting of two innovative musicians : - Nicolas Giraud ( writer, composer, capoeirist and original trumpeter with Tony Allen Band). - StΘphane Waltzer ( composer, arranger, sound engineer) These two form the nucleus of the group ½ Zum zum ╗. Live, the band is composed of three musicians. This is an excellent example of Brazilian music, with a strong African influence. The selling point of this album would be that the capoeira style has been gaining steady popularity in the last five years, and generating a lot of interest. It has been featured on mainstream television as an advert in the UK. The band will be on tour from early March and will open for Tony AllenÆs band on selected tours.
