With an album title like 'Call to the Deep' one may have the expectation of Lustmord's tenebrous biers or apertures to pits of hellish symphony, and given Kurotocage's label, Fluttering Dragon with its rank and file dignitaries apocalyptic, one will be pleasantly surprised that Kurotocage do not join the riot of evil for evil's sake in the dark ambient scene. 'Call to the Deep' despite its short length (the extra track is noticeably missed) shows a sign of growth for Fluttering Dragon, one accomplished with a high aesthetic for quality of production. The album drifts dolorously, no autos-da-fΘ here, just an unfolding of sonorous waves of lamentation and caress. It reminds a little of R. Rich and B. Lustmord's Stalker with its chimes and washes of pads, especially so in the rich mastering of the audio of production.
