Dieser Clash der Kulturen traf den Nerv der Zeit im Transit-Knotenpunkt Berlin. Die Band schuf ein neues Genre, noch bevor der Begriff Weltmusik entstand - lange bevor die Russendisko-Welle kam. Apparatschik avancierte schnell zum Kult und tourte bald durch ganz Europa. Mit den traditionellen Instrumenten Balalaika, Akkordeon, Bassbalalaika, Drums und einem Gesang aus tiefster Seele, wirbelt Apparatschik wie ein sibirischer Steppensturm mit Polka, Reggae, Ska, electro swing und dance groove Rhythmen über die Konzertbesucher hinweg. Bei Titeln wie Balalaika Techno Trance auf dem neuen Album Kurs Ost-West stellten Insider verwundert fest, dass Apparatschik keine Maschinen für die Soundeffekte braucht - alles ist echt und handgespielt. Während der Song Rjabina zunächst langsam atmosphärisch beginnend, zu einem bodenständigen Reggae wird, später mit einem kraftvollen Beat die tanzenden Fans beglückt, kommt Am Samowar, gleich von Anfang an in einem lockeren electro swing daher und zitiert charmant typische Klänge der 1930er.
