They identify as ôClassic █ █ 70Æs inspired rock with a sprinkling of AOR █ █ PowerPop.ö All of the band members are seasoned █ █ musicians who have played in many other notable █ █ bands prior to coming together as this group. █ █ ôScarecrowö has ten tracks. █ █ ôJupiter Callingö leads off the album. Some outer █ █ space overtones are definitely present, as the █ █ sound of a massive spaceship takes off, and some █ █ really melodious guitar chords and keyboard notes █ █ provide the backdrop. It has a big arena rock █ █ sound, and ManziÆs vocals are really perfect for █ █ the music in many ways. The backing vocals offer █ █ some wonderful harmonies as well. This might be █ █ classically inspired by 70Æs rock, but make no █ █ mistake, this is a fresh and modern sound pulsing █ █ with the bandÆs talent. ôClown in your Nightmareö █ █ is a groovier, mid-tempo song that swings with a █ █ playful rhythm. They really turn up the vocal █ █ layering in the chorus as well, and the keyboards █ █ have a strong presence. Make keyboards matter █ █ again, I say! █ █ ôScarsö has a tender opening, with lamenting █ █ harmonica notes and piano to go along with the █ █ soft emotional vocals. In the vein of ôwhat █ █ doesnÆt kill you, make you strongerö talks about █ █ the resolve to push past your scars. ôSeptember █ █ Rainö is inherently warmer than the proverbial █ █ ôNovember Rain.ö It has a nostalgic sound and █ █ reminds me of the works of STEVE WINWOOD in some █ █ waysàcapturing a passing moment in time where the █ █ only thing you remember is being happy and █ █ care-free. ôTwo Minutes 59ö has a jovial riff that █ █ allows an absolutely fantastic vocal performance █ █ from Paul Manzi as well as far reaching backing █ █ vocals that are like ladders on top of one █ █ another, shooting into the colored horizon. █ █ ôTimebombö has a positive and upbeat melody, again █ █ with heavy layering of backing vocals. They build █ █ in the chorus, up a chord progression until they █ █ canÆt get any higher. █ █ ôScarecrowö is the closing title track. I think █ █ all of the various elements of the album meld best █ █ here. It has an old school KANSAS and BOSTON vibe, █ █ with that big, hulking sound that would fill an █ █ arena packed with fans. There are elements of █ █ light and darkness here as well, and the balance █ █ there is gold. I have to admit, when I saw the █ █ name of the band and some of the song titles, I █ █ figured it was going to be sort of tongue-in-cheek █ █ listening experience.
