.Releasenotes ..............................................................
WorldÆs First Cinema announced their highly-anticipated debut album
"Something of Wonder" set to be released July 11th via Fearless Records.
Along with the news, they released the introspective track ôEnd of My Rope.ö
ôEnd of My Ropeö is a song that reflects the struggle of chasing your dreams
and goals but not seeing the results. ôThis song means a lot to us and speaks
to a feeling I think almost all musicians and creatives can relate to.
Feeling like you work so hard for your craft and are constantly met with
roadblocks or lack of progress can be very disheartening,ö shares the
Los-Angeles based duo John Sinclair and Fil Thorpe.
Driven by their perseverance and creativity, the group has created a debut
album that shows unparalleled depth and innovation. Building on the momentum
of their previous releases, this record continues to push cinematic
boundaries and touches on all the different tones they have played with since
inception.
ôWeÆve done heavily cinematic songs, really dark rocky songs, and orchestral
piano ballads - we wanted our debut album to encompass all of these elements
into a sonic journey that is glued together by the cinematic production tone
weÆve always had,ö added John and Fil.
Their music remains rooted in the influences of film scores which has always
been a cornerstone of WorldÆs First CinemaÆs sound and identity. Having the
opportunity to work on a full album rather than an EP has allowed them to
incorporate a wider range of sonic influences û from pop, EDM, and even æ90s
rock û into the sound of "Something of Wonder".
The record was produced in collaboration with Fran Hall (Imagine Dragons,
ZAYN) and features London-based rapper JD Cliffe. It boasts a total of 12
tracks which you can find below.
Creative direction is crucial to the group and with every release they strive
to reimagine themselves. Their 2023 EP, Palm Reader, was influenced by 1920Æs
Silver Screen era, featuring a vintage aesthetic. For this debut album, the
duo sought something bigger and fresher. Drawing inspiration from avant-garde
70s cinema, particularly films like JodorowskyÆs æThe Holy Mountain,Æ they
aimed to create something iconic, timeless and more impactful than anything
they have done before.
This announcement and new single come just after the release of three other
tracks that will be on the upcoming album. This includes the striking song
ôThe Underneath, the anthemic baroque pop song ôFreak Showö and the hypnotic
track ôParanoid.ö
About WorldÆs First Cinema
When you watch a movie in a crowded theater, you give your undivided
attention to the experience itself. Your senses lock into the action on the
screen and the sound from the speakers, and youÆre completely immersed.
WorldÆs First Cinemareplicate the moviegoing experience in their music. The
Los Angeles-based duoùJohn Sinclair and Fil Thorpeùproject a myriad of
intimate emotions across widescreen soundscapes underpinned by scenes of
alternative, indie, pop, and electronic. After amassing over 20 million
streams and counting and earning widespread acclaim from WONDERLAND,
EUPHORIA, Earmilk, The Line of Best Fit, and many more.
ôFor me, our name elicits a visual,ö states Fil. ôImagine a bunch of people
sit down in a room. They donÆt know what theyÆre doing, but theyÆre pointed
towards a screen. A film plays, and everyoneÆs mind is fucking blown. ThatÆs
the feeling we want to give. We want hearing our music to be similar to the
sensation of going to a movie for the first time ever.ö
ôWe really tried to capture the sensation of sitting in a theater, hearing
the opening credits rumble on that bass, and viewing the story in a song,ö
agrees John.
The pairÆs origin story is like something out of a classic flickà
A mutual friend invited John and Fil to a game night, and they naturally
started chatting. A few weeks later, they met up for a session, cooking up
their 2020 debut single ôCanÆt Feel Anything.ö It eventually generated 2.2
million Spotify streams followed by ôRed Run Coldö with 7.5 million Spotify
streams. Both songs adorned their debut Rituals EP in 2021. They inspired
tastemaker praise with ôSupernatural.ö Of the latter, The Line of Best Fit
urged, ôthink Panic! at the Disco meets Michael JacksonÆs æThrillerÆ û itÆs
fun, funky and spooky,ö and WONDERLAND. attested, ôthe L.A.-based duo are
redefining pop one theatrical rock melody at a time.ö Carrying this momentum
into 2022, ôYoung Beastö generated 1.7 million Spotify streams, and they
teamed up with Punctual for the fan favorite ôCastles.ö In the end, WorldÆs
First Cinema presents an escape worthy of the big screen, and youÆll never
want the credits to roll.
