release notes:
Meth Leppard are an Australian grindcore band and this is their second
album.
Gatekeepers is a 10-track, 15-minute kick in the face. Meth Leppard
offer up an intense dose of brutality that should find fans of bands
like Axis of Despair, Insect Warfare, Leng Tch'e, Maruta, Nasum, Pig
Destroyer, and Rotten Sound quite happy.
Meth Leppard adopt an old-school approach to brutality, but spliced with
more modern DNA too. Gatekeepers is a nasty piece of work, and a very
infectious one at that.
The blast beats are everywhere, and the riffs lacerating. Occasionally
groovy, occasionally thrashy, always ferocious, the songs are bursts of
hostility that reveal Meth Leppard to be very capable grindsmiths.
Elements of death metal add a furious deathgrind edge, while punishing
mid-paced heaviness bludgeons the listener senseless. Despite the
relentless hostility, there are murderous hooks here that savagely cut
deep.
Powering the blasting fury are eruptions of dynamic guitars that crush
the listener beneath energetic slabs of distorted granite. Scattered
within this, like blooms of new life found amidst the devastation, are
the rare use of atmospheric enhancements and gritty melodic colour. This
allows the blistering tracks to have more of an emotive weight than
you'd expect, showcasing Meth Leppard's advanced songwriting skills.
Gatekeepers may be brutal, but it doesn't lack finesse.
Yep, this is the stuff. Meth Leppard's grinding aggression is
well-received by yours truly. Gatekeepers is smashingly good fun. This
is definitely one for any grindhead to salivate over hungrily.
